Registration Authority

IEEE offers Registration Authority programs or registries which maintain lists of unique identifiers under standards and issue unique identifiers to those wishing to register them. The IEEE Registration Authority assigns unambiguous names to objects in a way which makes the assignment available to interested parties.

IEEE TEMPLATE/TDL ITEM APPLICATION

In IEEE 1451.4-2004 transducers containing transducer electronic data sheets (TEDS), data is stored according to an index called a template. Data must be written or read according to the template, since only numerical data is stored and the location and units associated with the data exist only in the template. A Transducer for a specific physical quantity requires a template associated with the appropriate physical units for that application. Templates are written in the template description language (TDL), which contains all units and physical quantities listed as TDL items. IEEE 1451.4-2004 users may register new templates and TDL items for their transducers with the IEEE Registration Authority, for publication.

As described in the standard, a company or user can create templates for use by all to whom the template description files are distributed. A template description file may be submitted to IEEE for consideration as IEEE template by the manufacturer who developed the template of significant use, under the following condition:

  • The submitted template must have been in use for a sufficiently long period and by a sufficient number of users to demonstrate its effectiveness and freedom from defects.

New templates and TDL items must conform with the requirements stated in the registration request process overview and pass the syntax check program.

The software is intended solely as a tool of convenience. The software does NOT guarantee that a given product is or will be compliant with IEEE-SA Standards and is NOT intended to be used, explicitly or implicitly, to certify or assure such compliance, and you shall NOT represent or imply to others that IEEE-SA has tested, certified or otherwise approved of any product developed through use of this software.

Both the requirements document and the program are located in the TDL programmer's start-up kit (.zip).

Requestor/company hereby agrees to indemnify and hold IEEE harmless from any claim arising out of Requestor's use of assignments or misuse of any assigned number. Signor agrees to notify IEEE of any changes of address or contact information. IEEE Registration Authority is unable to process any application without acceptance of the indemnification statement.
I Accept I Do Not Accept

This form may be used to request registration of a new template or TDL Item for publication. Please submit a separate form for each request and fax or mail to the address below.

Requests for registration of a new template or TDL item require IEEE Registration Authority review and approval of the proposed template or TDL item. This will be completed in less than thirty (30) days. If the application is placed on hold for any reason, the applicant has thirty (30) days to rectify the problem. If it is not rectified within thirty (30) days, the application process will be terminated and the applicant can re-apply once they have resolved the issue. A confirmation of acceptance will be sent within seven (7) business days of approval.

Please make sure that all sections of this form are completed.
