Wireless Access in Vehicular Environments (WAVE) management services defined in IEEE Std 1609.2, IEEE Std 1609.3 and IEEE Std 1609.4 define the local management functions to support interoperable WAVE communication between devices. The purpose of this standard is to provide specific over-the-air management and data message formats, and related local services, that enable WAVE devices to be managed over the air by designated other WAVE devices and carry protected identity in data messages. The services defined herein provide a common standard for interoperable management and identification of all such devices, irrespective of the applications supported by such devices. The scope of this standard is to define services, operating in the station management entities and at the network layers, which support interoperable remote management of WAVE devices and interoperable protected identity in WAVE short message protocol (WSMP) data communications.
