Registration Authority

IEEE offers Registration Authority programs or registries which maintain lists of unique identifiers under standards and issue unique identifiers to those wishing to register them. The IEEE Registration Authority assigns unambiguous names to objects in a way which makes the assignment available to interested parties.

If your firm manufactures or plans to manufacture products using ISO/IEC 8802 standards, you should apply to IEEE for your firm's MA-M. IEEE has been designated by the ISO Council to act as the registration authority for the implementation of International Standards in the ISO/IEC 8802 series. This is the one world-wide source of registered MA-Ms. For further details contact:

IEEE MA-M Assignments
The below public listing should be searched prior to applying for an MA-M. Searching the list will allow you to determine whether your company or any parent/subsidiary companies already own an assignment. When searching the public listing, addresses should be entered as XX-XX-XX.

Firms and numbers listed may not always be obvious in product implementations, as some manufacturers subcontract component manufacture and others include registered firm MA-Ms in their products.

The three-octet MA-M can be used to generate Universal LAN MAC addresses and Protocol Identifiers per ANSI/IEEE Std 802 for use in Local and Metropolitan Area Network applications.
