This standard applies to active personal electronic dosimeters that are worn on the trunk of the body for the purpose of measuring the personal dose equivalent or dose equivalent rate from external radiation sources. The standard applies to the device types measuring the following: • Type 1: X-ray, gamma, and high energy beta radiation; • Type 2: neutron radiation; and • Type 3: X-ray, gamma, high energy beta, and neutron radiation (i.e., total dose). The standard applies to devices and, if supplied, associated readout systems for measurements of photon radiation (X-rays and gamma rays) with energies from 50 keV to 1.5 MeV, beta radiation with maximum energies greater than 500 keV, and neutron radiation from thermal energies to approximately 15 MeV. The standard specifies required general characteristics; general testing procedures; radiation characteristics; electrical, mechanical, safety, and environmental characteristics; and criteria for validating the accuracy of stored dosimetry information. The standard evaluates active personal electronic dosimeters as part of a type testing program or qualification for procurement and subsequent use in a radiation protection program. This standard does not include instruments referred to as chirpers, does not specify methods for the proficiency testing and accreditation of dosimetry systems, and does not address passive devices such as thermoluminescent dosimeters, photographic film dosimeters, or quartz fiber electroscope dosimeters.

Other Activities From This Working Group
Current projects that have been authorized by the IEEE SA Standards Board to develop a standard.
No Active Projects
Standards approved by the IEEE SA Standards Board that are within the 10-year lifecycle.
No Active Standards
These standards have been replaced with a revised version of the standard, or by a compilation of the original active standard and all its existing amendments, corrigenda, and errata.
No Superseded Standards
These standards have been removed from active status through a ballot where the standard is made inactive as a consensus decision of a balloting group.
No Inactive-Withdrawn Standards
These standards are removed from active status through an administrative process for standards that have not undergone a revision process within 10 years.
No Inactive-Reserved Standards
