This IEEE Standards product is part of the C37 family on Switchgear, Substations and Protective Relays. This standard discusses the protection of shunt reactors used typically to compensate for capacitive shunt reactance of transmission lines. The more common circuit arrangements and protective relaying schemes presently in use are discussed and illustrated.

Other Activities From This Working Group
Current projects that have been authorized by the IEEE SA Standards Board to develop a standard.
No Active Projects
Standards approved by the IEEE SA Standards Board that are within the 10-year lifecycle.
No Active Standards
These standards have been replaced with a revised version of the standard, or by a compilation of the original active standard and all its existing amendments, corrigenda, and errata.
No Superseded Standards
These standards have been removed from active status through a ballot where the standard is made inactive as a consensus decision of a balloting group.
No Inactive-Withdrawn Standards
These standards are removed from active status through an administrative process for standards that have not undergone a revision process within 10 years.

IEEE Guide for the Protection of Shunt Reactors
Reaffirmed March 2012. A comprehensive guide to the methods and configurations for the protection of power system shunt reactors is provided in this guide. The protection of oil-immersed reactors equipped with auxiliary power windings, improved turn-to-turn protection, and use of digital (microprocessorbased) protection for shunt reactors are included. Remarks: Revision of IEEE Std C37.109-1988
