Low-Rate Wireless Personal Area Networks: Enabling Wireless Sensors with IEEE 802.15.4 (Second Edition)

This book will be an update to the existing book with the title "Low-Rate Wireless Personal Area Networks - Enabling Wireless Sensors with IEEE 802.15.4" by José Gutierrez, Edgar Callaway, and Raymond Barrett. The book will introduce the reader to the concept of low-rate wireless personal area networks based on the newly revised IEEE Std 802.15.4-2006, which includes the amendment IEEE 802.15.4b, its application, as well as implementation and system design consideration. The contents will include an overview of the IEEE 802.15.4b changes, an introduction into the envisioned applications, detailed information about the original radio specifications of the original IEEE 802.15.4-2003 standard, as well as the newly added optional physical layer specification, a valuable overview of the medium access control sublayer, and the changes introduced by the new revision. In addition, the book will discuss network functionality, system design considerations, and real-world issues facing implementers and system integrators of IEEE 802.15.4b. The changes in the standard included two additional optional physical layers in the 868MHz and 915 MHz bands providing higher data rates in the lower frequency bands, the addition of a method for a shared time base distribution enabling node synchronization, a mechanism for communicating the revision level, a complete update to the security mechanism as well as a number of simplifications and smaller changes to the MAC sub-layer. The update will add about 30 new pages and a number of changes throughout the existing book.
