This recommended practice defines functional, sensing, processing, and evaluation requirements for smart helmet systems intended for cognitive attention monitoring of two-wheeler riders. It covers multimodal data acquisition, including eye tracking, scene video, inertial measurements, and physiological signals, as well as methods for attention estimation, rider cognitive state classification, and real-time alert generation for unsafe conditions such as distraction and fatigue. This document also specifies evaluation methodologies and performance metrics for validating smart helmet–based attention monitoring systems in dynamic traffic environments.
