Guide for the Application of Data Centers and other Large Loads in Substations

This guide covers the design and installation of substations in applications for data centers and other large loads. This includes large load substation applications up to 800 kV ac and dc with large capacity up to 15 GW. The document provides guidance for: substation Transmission and Distribution (T&D) interconnection requirements to the power grid, typical system configurations, ratings, interconnection voltages, system reliability and redundance, onsite generation and energy storage, impact of compute load on substation equipment ratings and operation, typical power system studies such as transient and harmonic analysis, community and environment acceptance, short circuit modelling at high power density, power transformer strategy, switchgear equipment strategy, telemetry between substation equipment and compute loads, system expansion and growth, disaster planning and resilience.

Other Activities From This Working Group

Current projects that have been authorized by the IEEE SA Standards Board to develop a standard.

No Active Projects

Standards approved by the IEEE SA Standards Board that are within the 10-year lifecycle.

No Active Standards

These standards have been replaced with a revised version of the standard, or by a compilation of the original active standard and all its existing amendments, corrigenda, and errata.

No Superseded Standards

These standards have been removed from active status through a ballot where the standard is made inactive as a consensus decision of a balloting group.

No Inactive-Withdrawn Standards

These standards are removed from active status through an administrative process for standards that have not undergone a revision process within 10 years.
