Standard for Metadata of Geographic Feature Products Semantically Segmented from 3D Light Detection and Ranging Point Clouds

This standard defines a metadata schema for describing geographic feature products generated by automatic and semi-automatic semantic segmentation of 3D Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) point cloud data. The schema facilitates reproducibility, interoperability, and usability of products. The standard defines mandatory and optional metadata necessary for describing: • product identification and rights, • input 3D LiDAR point cloud data and their acquisition sensor/platform, • the acquisition environment, • ancillary input data, • preprocessing applied to the input data, • applied automatic and semi-automatic semantic segmentation algorithms and workflows, • adopted classification schema and annotation taxonomy and their definition, • post-segmentation processing, and • qualitative and quantitative metrics of product validation and quality evaluation. The geographic features addressed in this standard include both manmade and natural ones. The standard also defines terminology used in the segmentation of 3D LiDAR point cloud data. The standard serves as a foundation for enabling the reproducibility, interoperability, and usability of the geographic feature products across different geospatial processing systems, data providers, researchers, and end-users.

Other Activities From This Working Group

Current projects that have been authorized by the IEEE SA Standards Board to develop a standard.

No Active Projects

Standards approved by the IEEE SA Standards Board that are within the 10-year lifecycle.

No Active Standards

These standards have been replaced with a revised version of the standard, or by a compilation of the original active standard and all its existing amendments, corrigenda, and errata.

No Superseded Standards

These standards have been removed from active status through a ballot where the standard is made inactive as a consensus decision of a balloting group.

No Inactive-Withdrawn Standards

These standards are removed from active status through an administrative process for standards that have not undergone a revision process within 10 years.
