This guide describes a field detection method for the metallic sheath current of single-conductor shielded Cross-linked Polyethylene (XLPE) insulated AC cables rated from 69 kV to 500 kV, including the current detection method, safety requirements, and the diagnostic criteria for defects in a metallic sheath bonding system. The diagnostic criteria in this document can be referenced for other extruded insulation cables whose installation and metallic sheath grounding systems are similar to the specified XLPE cables.
