This standard addresses the fundamental attributes that contribute to automotive radar quality for ADAS and ADS applications. It specifies the radar as a safety critical component within a safety critical system, and defines the performance metrics that are necessary for safe deployment of radars in different automated driving functions. Here, the radar sensor is regarded not only as a sensor with static features, such as range, speed and angle resolution, but also as a sub-system which needs to fulfill certain requirements depending on the use-case and under various test scenarios. This standard specifies both the static parameters and the dynamic or scenario-related performance metrics. The former includes e.g., range, speed and angle resolution, or minimum, maximum detectable range and Field-of-View (FoV), while the latter corresponds to e.g., the radar's capability to resolve multiple targets with different trajectories in certain maneuvering. Assessment of these metrics demands unified testing solutions. This standard introduces methods for evaluation and testing of automotive radars, which increases reproducibility, creates uniform understanding, and makes the validation results comparable between radar sensors of various types. One of the main purposes of these standardized testing methods is defining the key requirements for test devices such as automotive Radar Target Simulators (RTS). The last part of this standard covers interference effects between radars on the same vehicle and between vehicles. It investigates the interference impact on radar's performance. Also, it offers standardized methods for evaluation of interference mitigation techniques implemented in various radars.
