Recommended Practice for Smart Energy Systems Data and Device Interoperability Incorporating TIPPSS (Trust, Identity, Privacy, Protection, Safety and Security)

This recommended practice establishes a Trust, Identity, Privacy, Protection, Safety, and Security (TIPPSS)-based interoperability profile and conformance framework for smart energy systems data and device interoperability. The recommended practice applies to a broad range of components, including smart meters, sensors, communication systems, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, Energy Management Systems (EMS), Distributed Energy Resources (DER), and grid-connected automotive systems. The recommended practice also covers customer devices and interoperability within smart energy systems. This recommended practice is limited to an interoperability and conformance framework based on TIPPSS for the devices, both physical and virtual, that are used in smart energy systems, not necessarily all the consumer equipment. The standard does not address use cases involving non-communication-enabled consumer devices.
