This recommended practice defines a common, interoperable location service layer for IEEE 1847-based Location Services for Healthcare (LS-H). The document specifies the functional behaviors, interface structures, and associated data models by which LS-H positioning engines provide subject-location and related information to location-enabled applications. The scope includes support for multiple positioning technologies and positioning infrastructures, while remaining technology-agnostic. The recommended practice focuses on the location service software layer and its interfaces, and does not prescribe requirements for locatables, positioning infrastructure, or application user interfaces.

P1847.3
Recommended Practice for Bluetooth Low Energy for Location Services for Healthcare
This recommended practice provides guidance for the lifecycle management of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) positioning technology for use within healthcare environments, including planning, configuration, deployment, and reuse. The document specifies recommended practices for BLE beacon configuration and infrastructure design intended to support consistent and scalable implementations that can be reused across multiple location-related applications. The scope is limited to BLE-specific considerations within the IEEE 1847-based Location Services for Healthcare (LS-H) framework and does not redefine the BLE protocol. This recommended practice is intended to be used as a guide for planning BLE configurations and deployments and is built upon the IEEE SA recommended practice of a common framework for LS-H.
Standards approved by the IEEE SA Standards Board that are within the 10-year lifecycle.
