Guidelines for protective grounding methods for individuals engaged in de-energized overhead transmission and distribution line maintenance are provided. This guide also provides information on the sizing and maintenance of protective ground sets. It is a compilation of information on protective grounding practice employed by North American power utilities.

Guide for Protective Grounding of Power Lines
This document provides guidelines for grounding methods to protect workers and the public from voltages that might develop in a jobsite during de-energized maintenance of overhead transmission and distribution lines.
P1048b
IEEE Draft Guide for Protective Grounding of Power Lines Amendment B: Differentiating the Fabric Carrier Mat and the Rigid Carrier Mat
Expanded in this amendment is the use of conductive mats for creating equipotential zones. Specific guidance in the use of conductive mats while applying temporary protective ground cables is provided.
Standards approved by the IEEE SA Standards Board that are within the 10-year lifecycle.
1048-2016
IEEE Guide for Protective Grounding of Power Lines
Guidelines are provided for Temporary Protective Grounding (TPG) of electric power lines to assist in protection of workers from voltages and currents that might develop at a de-energized worksite during maintenance of ac overhead and underground, transmission and distribution lines, cables, and equipment. Other forms of worker protection include isolation and insulation. These methods are described in other documents and guides and are not discussed here.

IEEE Guide for Protective Grounding of Power Lines - Amendment 1
Guidelines are provided for Temporary Protective Grounding (TPG) of electric power lines to assist in protection of workers from voltages and currents that might develop at a de-energized worksite during maintenance of ac overhead and underground, transmission and distribution lines, cables, and equipment. Other forms of worker protection include isolation and insulation. These methods are described in other documents and guides and are not discussed here.
