James E. Matthews III

President, IEEE Standards Association (IEEE SA) – Jim is currently the President of the IEEE SA and a member of the IEEE Board of Directors. Jim is a Senior Member of IEEE after joining IEEE in 1976 while a student at Georgia Tech.

Previously, Jim was Vice-President of the IEC, and Chair of the IEC Standardization Management Board (SMB). Jim was a member of the ANSI Board of Directors from 2001 – 2020. He also served as an ITU-T Rapporteur for over 10 years in Study Group 15 on Optical Transport.

Jim is the Director of Technical Standards & Standards Policy for Corning’s global products and markets. He has represented Corning in participant and leadership roles for national, regional & global standards groups.

Jim is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology (B.E.E./M.S.E.E.) and was a member of Eta Kappa Nu and Tau Beta Pi.
