Recommended Practice for Sizing Nickel-Cadmium Batteries for Stationary Applications
This recommended practice covers the sizing of nickel-cadmium batteries used for standby operation in stationary applications. Recommendations are provided for applications including, generating stations, substations, telecommunications, switchgear and control systems, compressor stations, emergency lighting, uninterruptible power supplies and engine-starting applications. The following topics are beyond the scope of this document: • Installation, maintenance, qualification, and testing procedures which are covered in IEEE Std 1106; • Consideration of battery types other than nickel-cadmium; • Renewable energy systems (e.g., wind turbines and photovoltaic systems) that may provide only partial or intermittent charging which is covered in IEEE Std 1144; • Design of the dc system and sizing of the battery charger(s) which is covered in IEEE Std 946.
Standards approved by the IEEE SA Standards Board that are within the 10-year lifecycle.
No Active Standards
These standards have been replaced with a revised version of the standard, or by a compilation of the original active standard and all its existing amendments, corrigenda, and errata.

IEEE Recommended Practice for Sizing Nickel-Cadmium Batteries for Stationary Applications Amendment 1: Additional Discussion on Sizing Margins
This amendment provides additional guidance on sizing margins that may be applied when nickel-cadmium batteries are used in stationary applications involving an element of charge-discharge cycling.
These standards have been removed from active status through a ballot where the standard is made inactive as a consensus decision of a balloting group.
No Inactive-Withdrawn Standards
These standards are removed from active status through an administrative process for standards that have not undergone a revision process within 10 years.
