Infrastructure for Emerging Applications
Technologies such as Quantum Computing, AR/VR, Blockchain and next generation connectivity protocols will drive future applications and enable new markets – addressing speed and latency requirements; Emerging Applications such as remote surgery driven by AR/VR, and Quantum computing enabling Cybersecurity, Pharmaceutical Research, Data Analytics, new modeling and optimization solutions. As these technologies evolve, considerations on energy efficiency and sustainability also become very important.
The IEEE Standards Association (IEEE SA) Industry Connections (IC) program helps incubate new standards and related products and services by facilitating collaboration among organizations and individuals as they hone and refine their thinking on rapidly changing technologies. See below for some of the activities related to Emerging Applications.
AR/VR Advisory Board
This activity will provide advice, proposals and other inputs for IEEE VR/AR Working Group and serve as an ideal home for other work items (e.g. white papers, events) while IEEE VR/AR Working Group will focus on standards development.
Blockchain Asset Exchange
This activity will help design and develop a decentralized trading platform where entities and individuals could collaborate on creating, transferring, and capitalizing intellectual properties. The end goal is to enable and endorse exchanges where assets can be transacted for value-based tokens bringing together entities and individuals to maximize long tail opportunities and enabling open innovation.
Blockchain-based Omnidirectional Pandemic Surveillance
This activity will help to develop standards for cross-industry data sharing and interactions leveraging an open-source reference model and implementation for the new systems and applications. The goal is to solicit commitments and reach consensus among key stakeholders to advocate the Blockchain-based Omnidirectional Pandemic Surveillance on a global basis.
New Ethernet Applications
This activity will assess emerging requirements for the development of Ethernet standards, identify gaps not currently addressed by IEEE 802.3™ standards and help facilitate building industry consensus towards proposals to initiate new standards development efforts.
Disaster Recovery for Blockchain
The goal is to use predictive analysis on different rolling disaster failure events using Machine learning or Deep learning techniques and do a planned recovery before unplanned outages, so that the target site will have complete data copy and bring up Blockchain nodes and enterprise workloads.
Meta Issues in Cybersecurity
The purpose of this Industry Connection is to examine the opportunity for IEEE to draw on its strengths and influence to advance the field of cybersecurity for the benefit of humanity.
IoT Security Framework
The motivation behind this activity is to raise awareness at the consumer and manufacturers sector and work with regulators to promote secure practices in the IoT ecosystem with a view of IoT as an inextricably linked ecosystem comprised of people, and processes.
Labeling Cybersecurity Data for AI Automation
Automating cyber analysts actions using AI can help reduce amounts of work for analysts and thereby reduce time to outcome dramatically, record actions in knowledge bases for the training of new cyber analysts, and in general, open up the field for new opportunities.
Cybersecurity in Agile Cloud Computing
The goals of this activity is to raise awareness of cloud remote access security risks (e.g. by workshops and conferences), recommend best practices and guidelines for cloud remote access and propose standards and certificates for cloud service providers regarding (context-aware) secured remote access.
MMUS - Micro Mechanical Universal Switch
The focus of this activity is intended to build on other similar work done in the radio frequency micro-electromechanical systems (RF MEMS) industry which attempted to define standards for RF MEMS switches.
