About the Activity
Much of the existing communication designs/architecture have taken a bottom-up approach wherein applications are made to fit the underlying physical layer. The developed ecosystem is difficult to introduce newer components into and, to an extent, it is difficult to even understand the implications of each component in the overall architecture and design.
Goals of the Activity
The goal of this activity is to develop a structured, sustainable communication framework that is flexible, adaptable, and scalable for newer ecosystems. This framework is intended to be formulaic and can be extended for different ecosystems and may be used by governments, industry, and academia. It highlights both the areas of interest and gaps that should also be considered.
- Business Focus – what do we need within and among ecosystems?
- Include industry structure, competitor analysis, e2e supply chain, and concepts. The ecosystem stage represents a set(s) of industries
- Technical Focus – what do we need to provide for anticipated ecosystem needs (and how do we deploy with extension)?
- Use case categories and network operation enhancements to provide generalized 5G drivers and enablers.
- Key Network components enable current/future technology equipment capabilities. Components may also enable some compensation, e.g. circumvent core/edge capabilities with additional RAN capabilities.
- Governance/Business Focus – how do we use the Applications Driven Framework more effectively?
- Strategic/Tactical — Incorporate pilots and other initiatives to improve economic development, quality of life, attractiveness/retention of residents (employees), new markets, and expanded offerings.
- Operational — ranges from basic functionality to competitiveness
Proposed deliverables and outcomes from this Industry Connections activity may include documents (e.g., white papers, reports), proposals for standards, conferences, and workshops, etc. The specific deliverables of this activity will be:
- Identifying gaps in existing standards
- New PARs based on the gaps
- Identification of Recommended Practices
- Workshops and Events
- Webinars
- Reports
- Collaboration initiatives
- Designing and building working prototypes that will be tested on field
Getting Involved
Who Should Get Involved
We welcome new participants interested in the Transdisciplinary Framework for 5G and Future Networks Applications and Services, especially in secured remote access. Members will include, but are not limited to, large and small corporations, academia, industry, and government with interests in:
- Ecosystems: strategy development, product management, supply chains, specific sectors such as agriculture, public safety, health care, multi-modal transportation, electrical power, etc.
- Networks and Technologies: technology roadmap development, technology research and development, network design and planning, etc.
- Governance: policy development, data governance, comprehensive planning, urban planning, rural development, deployments, performance, strategic positioning, competitiveness, etc.
