Green Hydrogen

About the Activity

Hydrogen as an energy carrier has been increasingly in the news relative to its potential to contribute to clean energy solutions and climate change mitigation technology options. Governments are developing hydrogen strategies and entering into early agreements about the supply of green hydrogen – hydrogen generated from renewable energy sources -, e.g., between Canada and Germany. There is currently scattered related work across IEEE and one aspect of this activity will be to build an IEEE community of experts to collaborate on this topic. Further, there is an excellent opportunity for IEEE to contribute to standardization for hydrogen topics related to hydrogen as an energy carrier.

Goals of the Activity

The primary focus for the proposed Industry Connections program is on – green – hydrogen as an energy carrier and energy storage for power systems / electrical applications.

The goal for this Industry Connections Committee would be to identify gaps in technology and standards related to the use of green hydrogen primarily in the electrical power and energy sector, and subsequently initiate follow-on activities to address identified gaps.
