This session will focus on sustainable energy and address the role and impact that technology has in delivering innovative approaches and solutions to address climate change, mitigate its impacts and to support the UNs sustainable development goals, in particular SDG13 (Climate Action) and SDG17 (Global Partnerships).
Sustainable energy is fundamental to achieving SDG13 and underpins progress across multiple dimensions of sustainable development. At the core of SDG13 is the imperative to ensure affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all. Sustainable energy solutions play a pivotal role in enhancing energy access, improving public health, stimulating economic development and fostering resilience to climate-related risks. As the world faces pressing challenges related to climate change, energy access and environmental sustainability, and resulting inequalities, the evolution and the development and adoption of new technologies are critical for accelerating the transition to a more sustainable energy future.
This session will cover what engineers today are working on to address the challenges and risks to energy generation and storage, along with benefits that can be leveraged through the use of technologies such as AI in creating an energy efficient smart infrastructure that meets zero carbon goals. It will also discuss the collaborative opportunities created through standards development and other open consensus-building communities to develop reliable forms of energy for applications such as the development of infrastructure to support electrification and sustainable transport among others.
