Building on the success of its annual year-end IEEE SA Standards Fellowship program held alongside the IEEE Standards Board (SASB) meeting series at IEEE’s headquarters, for the first SASB meeting of the year in New Delhi, India, IEEE SA went local. From 2-6 March 2020, IEEE SA invited national standards bodies and ministries to participate in a local IEEE SA Fellowship program.

Held in parallel with the IEEE SASB meeting series, Fellowship program participants experienced IEEE’s open standards process in action, and had the opportunity to directly engage with the IEEE SA standards community on technical areas, including IEEE’s future networks standards and impactful work in the IoT space as well as on IEEE’s work on AI systems and sustainable development.

By attending the IEEE SASB meeting series, the IEEE SA Standards Fellowship program participants gain an overview of how IEEE oversees and coordinates the development and revision of IEEE global standards. Directly engaging with IEEE standards experts on technical topics of interest fosters an understanding of IEEE and its scope of work, and provides a deeper level of engagement with IEEE SA going forward.

Employees of national standards bodies of India and of national ministries participated in the program: Ritwik Anand, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS); Niwedita Pathak and Bindoo Srivastava, Telecommunications Standards Development Society (TSDSI); Premjit Lal, Preetika Singh, and Neha Upadhyay, Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC), Department of Telecommunications, Government of India.
