Evaluation Measurement of Absorbed Power Density From Millimeter Wave (mmWave) Devices

About the Activity

The goal of this Industry Connections activity is for International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Technical Committee (TC) 106 and IEEE International Committee on Electromagnetic Safety (ICES) to jointly develop a Technical Report (TR) on the newest, most up-to to-date scientific assessment procedures for absorbed power density (APD) of mmWave exposures from wireless devices consistent with the latest exposure standards from the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP), and IEEE C95.1, Standard for Safety Levels with Respect to Human Exposure to Electric, Magnetic, and Electromagnetic Fields, 0 Hz to 300 GHz.

Goals of the Activity

Stakeholders will use the informative technical report to begin testing these new methods and compare them with local procedures without restrictions and requirements of a normative publication. This will advance the development of a full dual logo International Standard (IS) in a quicker time frame, allowing regulators, test laboratories, and industry to fully assess the new methods in parallel with IS development and keep up with the latest wireless technology.

The output will be a joint TR between IEEE and IEC.
