This standard establishes a connection-oriented transport profile and physical layer suitable for medical device communications that use short-range infrared wireless. This standard defines communications services and protocols consistent with specifications of the Infrared Data Association, and are optimized for 'point-of-care' applications at or near the patient.

Current projects that have been authorized by the IEEE SA Standards Board to develop a standard.
No Active Projects
Standards approved by the IEEE SA Standards Board that are within the 10-year lifecycle.
No Active Standards
These standards have been replaced with a revised version of the standard, or by a compilation of the original active standard and all its existing amendments, corrigenda, and errata.
1073.2.1.1-2004
ISO/IEEE Draft International Standard for Health Informatics - Point-of-care medical device communication - Application profiles - Base Standard
The scope of this standard is upper-layer (i.e. ISO OSI Application, Presentation, and Session) services and protocols for information exchange under ISO/IEEE 11073 Standards for Medical Device Communications (MDC). This standard is the Base Standard of the IEEE 1073.2, Medical Device Application Profiles (MDAP), as harmonized through CEN and ISO. (Renumbered from P1073.2.1.1)
These standards have been removed from active status through a ballot where the standard is made inactive as a consensus decision of a balloting group.
1073-1996
IEEE Standard for Medical Device Communications - Overview and Framework
An overall definition of the IEEE 1073 family of standards is provided, describing the interconnection and interoperation of medical devices with computerized healthcare information systems in a manner suitable for the clinical environment.
These standards are removed from active status through an administrative process for standards that have not undergone a revision process within 10 years.
11073-20101-2004
ISO/IEC/IEEE International Standard - Health informatics - Point-of-care medical device communication - Application profile - Base standard
The scope of this standard is upper layer [i.e., the International Organization for Standardization (ISO's) open systems interconnection (OSI) application, presentation layer, and session layer] services and protocols for information exchange under the ISO/IEEE 11073 standards for medical device communications (MDC). This standard is the base standard of the ISO/IEEE 11073-20000 medical device application profiles (MDAP), as harmonized through the Committee for European Normalization (CEN) and the ISO.
