According to the US Department of Homeland Security, more than 40 percent of reported infrastructure cyber attacks in 2012 were directed against the energy sector, including utilities and natural gas pipelines. Smart Grid cyber security remains a broad, complex, and highly dynamic challenge. And with the continued increase in frequency, duration, and intensity of cyber attacks, there is mounting urgency to find new and more effective means for securing critical Smart Grid infrastructures, a challenge to be discussed during an Ask Me Anything session sponsored and organized by IEEE Smart Grid.

With more than 25 years of engineering, marketing and sales experience, and as chair of two IEEE working groups addressing cyber security for electric utilities, IEEE Smart Grid expert, Sam Sciacca is ideally suited to lead a frank discussion about the state of smart grid cyber security. During his LinkedIn “Ask Me Anything” (AMA), he will address topics such as the role of cyber security in smart grid, emerging challenges, and potential solutions for mitigating attacks. AMA participants will be able to submit questions about smart grid and cyber security, which will be answered in real-time.

This IEEE Smart Grid AMA will begin at 9:00am EDT, Thursday, 11 April 2013 in the IEEE Smart Grid LinkedIn group. Please note that this is an online-only event; a LinkedIn account and membership in the IEEE Smart Grid LinkedIn group is required to participate. Becoming a member of the IEEE Smart Grid LinkedIn group is easy and free. To join, visit the IEEE Smart Grid group on LinkedIn.
