From work to entertainment, digital technology has transformed almost every aspect of life. So, it is no surprise to see a rise in digital health devices and these connected devices represent an opportunity to provide more individualized medical care in a timely and convenient way. In a recent Health Data Management article, Why providers will increase the use of connected health devices, Leslie Saxon, MD, Professor of Medicine and Clinical Scholar, Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California shares how connected devices are entering and impacting the healthcare industry.
As more sophisticated, specialized sensors reach the market, devices are able to monitor various aspects of a patient’s health and can enable access to healthcare wherever a patient may be at a time of need. However, along with the expansion of health-related digital devices are concerns for privacy and security. Dr. Saxon provided insight on this topic at the annual SXSW Conference and Festival, March 10-19, 2017. The session, Euthanizing our Global System of ‘Sick Care’, was included in the IEEE Tech for Humanity Series at SXSW.
