PISCATAWAY, N.J. USA, and SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA, 8 September 2011 – IEEE, the world's largest professional association advancing technology for humanity, and the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) today announced that they have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to cooperate in standards development and distribution. IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) and KATS will work together to promote mutual interests through global standards cooperation and to support continued economic growth on a global scale.
Both organizations expect that working together as new technologies emerge will facilitate faster, better global standards development.
"New convergence technologies are increasingly used in a wide range of applications such as smart grid," said Chong Il Ahn, Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) Director of New Convergence Technology Standards Division. “The partnership between KATS and IEEE will allow KATS to leverage the breath of IEEE expertise in these areas to build a more global industry.”
Under the terms of the MOU, IEEE-SA and KATS will cooperate on standardization efforts such as joint training and education programs, research projects, and information sharing. Each organization will bear its own costs, but the results derived from MOU activities will be jointly owned.
"The collaboration between KATS and IEEE-SA will help grow the global market for new convergence technologies," said Judith Gorman, managing director, IEEE Standards Association. "We look forward to working with KATS on essential global standards development efforts."
