The ICAP Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) Conformity Assessment program has been developed to address an industry need that enables Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) manufacturers to demonstrate conformance to IEEE C37.118™-2005, the standard for Synchrophasors for Power Systems. This standard defines synchronized phasor measurements used in power system applications and provides a method to quantify the measurement.
This program aims to parse and extract the current active standards: IEEE C37.118.1™-2011 and IEEE C37.118.1a™-2014 for these critical requirement types, and to specify essential procedures that can be used by test laboratories. The testing procedures are defined in the IEEE Synchrophasor Measurement Test Suite Specification. The IEEE Synchrophasor Measurement Test Suite Specification was developed and supported by subject matter experts (SMEs) representing national laboratories, utilities, equipment manufactures and Regional Transmission Operators (RTOs). The IEEE Synchrophasor Measurement Test Suite Specification is available for purchase via TechStreet or the IEEE Xplore® Digital Library.
Companies that meet the ICAP conformance requirements may be awarded IEEE Synchrophasor Certification and listed on the certification registry.
The Synchrophasor Conformity Assessment Steering Committee (SCASC) was formed in May 2012. The SCASC comprises of SMEs in the field of power and energy. The SCASC's role is to accelerate Synchrophasor adoption through conformity assessment and certification programs.
The SCASC has been a forum for the dissemination of best practices and shared discussions on issues of conformance and certification of Synchrophasors. Key responsibilities of the SASC include:
