CONSUMER COMMUNICATIONS WORKSTREAM
Consumer communications is important to provide improved, secure and reliable connectivity for data intensive applications like UAV, gaming, media, AR/VR, web based intensive applications. Consumer communication is not only about embracing and defining new technologies, but also about embracing the new perceptions/ realities towards consumers as well.
The goal of the workstream is to provide connectivity to the evolving higher throughput, lower latency applications. See below for some of the activities and standards this practice is working on to help grow the ecosystem of invested stakeholders and reach our goals.
IEEE 802 Network Enhancements for the Next Decade (PDF)
The goal of this activity is to assess, outside of the IMT activity, emerging requirements for IEEE 802 wireless and higher-layer communication infrastructures, identify commonalities, gaps, and trends not currently addressed by IEEE 802 standards and projects, and facilitate building industry consensus towards proposals to initiate new standards development efforts.
Community Dedicated to Advancing the Adoption and Integration of Digital Transformation
Digital transformation is the integration of three developing trends and capabilities. First is the adoption of advanced digital technologies such as IoT, AI, Big Data, Digital Twin, VR/AR/MR/XR, Blockchain, etc. Second is the reformulation of business platforms and processes to operate in a lean, resilient, and real-time collaborative manner with customers and supplier networks. Third is the shift in workforce engagement to operate using virtual and boundary-less teams. This activity is dedicated to advancing the adoption and integration of digital transformation in various industry sectors by providing standards, recommended practices, guides, and reference implementations.
IEEE P2023 Standard Taking Digital Transformation to New Levels (Article)
The IEEE Digital Transformation Working Group’s new, approved standards project—IEEE P2023™—Standard for Digital Transformation Architecture and Framework—aims to take digital transformation to the next level. And, while it’s understood that there are many benefits for enterprises embracing digital transformation, it reaches far beyond just the associated technologies, representing a digitally enabled cultural shift that will transform and reimagine commerce, government, and society in general.
IEEE launches 802.3™ Beyond 400Gb/s Ethernet Study Group to Define Next High Speed Threshold for Ethernet Data Rate (Press Release)
With bandwidth demand growing across all areas of Ethernet connectivity globally, the IEEE 802.3 Beyond 400Gb/s Ethernet Study Group will explore initiating a new IEEE project that would standardize capabilities exceeding today’s maximum data rate of 400 Gigabit per second (Gb/s) for IEEE 802.3, IEEE Standard for Ethernet.
Perspectives on 5G Applications and Services - March 2018 (Article)
5G is not just an evolutionary upgrade of the previous generation of cellular, but it is a revolutionary technology envisioned that will eliminate the bounds of access, bandwidth, performance, and latency limitations on connectivity worldwide. 5G has the potential to enable fundamentally new applications, industries, and business models and dramatically improve quality of life around the world via unprecedented use cases that require high data-rate instantaneous communications, low latency, and massive connectivity for new applications for mobile, eHealth, autonomous vehicles, smart cities, smart homes, and the IoT.
