Promoting IEEE Standards on Power Line Communications With the Hybrid PLC/RF PHY

The rapid development of the Internet of Things (IoT) has led to increased demands for communication technologies. One of the significant technologies is power line communication with hybrid Power Line Communication (PLC)/Radio Frequency Physical Layer (RF PHY), which is a type of dual-mode communication technology. It can achieve bidirectional, high-speed, and stable data transmission over dual channels on the power line and is widely applicable to IoT scenarios.

Over the past two years, we have made efforts to develop the IEEE 1901.3 standards. This technology is being supported by the IEEE 1901.3 standards and is being increasingly adopted in the verticals. Thus, it is important to initiate the IC Activity to provide guidance on current technology development, application challenges, best practices in typical application scenarios, and recommendations for the future.

• Promote the IEEE 1901.3 standards and awareness of their application: Attract more participants through the activity and share knowledge of IEEE 1901.3 standards. Compile the white paper to introduce the application and implementation of IEEE 1901.3 standards to enhance global understanding.
• Strengthen international cooperation and drive technological innovation: Gather relevant experts from different fields and encourage close cooperation to exchange their application progresses, discuss challenges in-depth and explore solutions to improve product quality and competitiveness.
• Accelerate application landing and industry development: Provide best practices and guidance for practical applications especially in smart grid, smart home, etc., to advance the application and relevant industry development.

Participation is open to, but not limited to, equipment manufacturers, silicon manufacturers, chip vendors, software developers, IoT developers and implementers, electric/power utilities, photovoltaic energy system implementers, petrochemicals utilities and smart city implementers.
