IEEE SENIOR MEMBER NAMED WINNER OF 2011 TECHAMERICA INNOVATOR AWARD FOR GREEN TECH

Wael William Diab, a senior member of IEEE,  was recognized for his leadership in developing Broadcom’s Energy Efficient Networking (EEN) solutions and helping to reduce global carbon footprint at the 53rd Annual David Packard Medal of Achievement and Innovator Awards on October 11, 2011.

The Innovator Awards honor innovators representing different industry segments for their contributions to the technology industry. One winner was selected in each of the following categories: Cloud Computing & E-Commerce, Cybersecurity, Electronics, Government Services, Green Tech / Smart Grid, Health & Medical Technologies, Mobile Services, Semiconductor, and Social Media and Software.

Diab, employed by Broadcom as a senior technical director, serves as the Vice-Chair of the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet Working Group. He is also a member of the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE SA) Standards Board, the IEEE SA Corporate Advisory Group (CAG) and a member of the IEEE Standards Education Committee (SEC). Diab has 65 issued U.S. patents and more than 250 pending U.S. patent applications in the networking space. He also is a published author and co-wrote “Ethernet in the First Mile: Access for Everyone.”

IEEE LIFE MEMBER AWARDED THE FINEGAN STANDARDS MEDAL AT THE 2011 ANSI BANQUET

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) honored leaders of the US and global voluntary standards-setting and conformity assessment community at the 2011 ANSI Awards Banquet and Ceremony. This annual event is a long-standing tradition that recognizes individuals for their creativity, dedication, and vision in the field of standards and conformity assessment.

Richard DeBlasio, IEEE Life Member and Smart Grid Liaison to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), is a chief engineer at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and was one of fourteen honored at this year’s ceremony. The Finegan Standards Medal specifically recognizes extraordinary leadership in the development of application and voluntary standards.
