Standard Covers Trial-Use of Automated Test Markup Language
for XML
The latest IEEE standard related to XML (eXtensible Markup
Language) is now available.
The standard -- IEEE 1617.4-2007, "IEEE Trial-Use
Standard for Automatic Test Markup Language (ATML) for Exchanging
Automatic Test Information via XML: Exchanging Test Configuration
Information" -- defines an exchange format, utilizing XML,
for identifying all of the hardware, software and documentation
that may be used to test and diagnose a Unit Under Test
(UUT) on an Automatic Test System (ATS).
Test Configuration provides a framework, which enables test
program set data to be exchanged between compliant systems.
The data supports the acquisition and itemization of test
assets required to be in place prior to testing a UUT on
the test system. Format: Print on Demand Member Price: $70.00 / Non-Member Price: $90.00

Tutorial Looks At Software Reliability
Process Practices IEEE Fellow Norman Schneidewind, Ph.D., has authored
a new Standards Information Network guide to understanding
software reliability.
"Tutorial on Hardware and Software Reliability, Maintainability
and Availability" serves as a companion document to
IEEE P1633, "IEEE/AIAA Draft Recommended Practice on Software
Reliability," and elaborates on key software reliability
process practices in more detail than can be specified in
the Recommended Practice.
The tutorial also addresses subjects such as maintainability,
availability and the integration of hardware and software,
making it valuable as a stand-alone document beyond the
usage of IEEE P1633. Numerous illustrated solved problems
are included.
Cyber Security of Intelligent Electronic
Devices Addressed in New Standard A new IEEE standard provides a minimum
set of requirements designed to provide the tools and features
for a user to implement an intelligent electronic device
(IED) security effort in accordance with NERC CIP requirements.
IEEE 1686-2007, "IEEE Standard for Substation Intelligent
Electronic Devices (IEDs) Cyber Security Capabilities,"
defines the functions and features to be provided in substation
IEDs to accommodate critical infrastructure protection programs.
In addition, the standard introduces a new concept to IEEE
standards: a Table of Compliance. Vendors and other suppliers
that claim to comply with the 1686 standard must generate
a Table of Compliance that indicates a "level of compliance"
with the requirements in every numbered paragraph.
The standard was developed by the Substation Committee of
the IEEE Power Engineering Society.

More than 80 active IEEE standards, guides and recommended
practices are included on the new "Power Distribution and
Regulating Transformers Standards Collection," now available
on CD-ROM.
Also known as the IEEE C57 series, many of these standards
are recognized by the American National Standards Institute
(ANSI). Some were also developed with the National Electrical
Manufacturers Association (NEMA). All are essential to anyone
working in the power distribution industry.
This authoritative resource includes every IEEE standard
and related document at a significant savings. Purchase
individually, this collection would cost more than US$5,000.
But now you can have them all in one source, at a savings
of 90% off list price.
