Improve Safety with New Book on Low-Voltage Systems

Everything you need to know to minimize accident rates and ensure safety can be found in the new book, "Electrical Safety of Low-Voltage Systems" by Massimo A. G. Mitolo.

Through comprehensive explanations, mathematical analysis, and circuit diagrams, "Electrical Safety of Low-Voltage Systems" provides the latest bonding and grounding strategies. You'll learn how to identify and quantify hazards, prevent faults and overvoltages, properly size conductors, and develop sound earthing systems.

This essential guide also includes details on complying with current codes -- including Article 250 of the National Electrical Code -- as well as working in high-risk locations and testing system components.

Inside, you'll find relevant information on IEEE and IEC standards, low-voltage fault loops in different types of grounding systems, and many other topics designed to minimize accident rates and ensure low-voltage system safety.

Don't put yourself at risk -- order your copy of this essential new book!

New IEEE 802.1Q Amendment Covers Fault Management

IEEE has published a new amendment to the IEEE 802.1ag™ standard. The amendment, IEEE 802.1Qaw™, extends the connectivity fault management capabilities introduced in IEEE Std 802.1ag to include tools to facilitate diagnosis and isolation of faults sensitive to, or caused by, particular data patterns in frames transmitted by a service user.

Languages for Software Design Descriptions Detailed in New Standard

A new standard from IEEE describes software designs and establishes the information content and organization of a software design description (SDD).

The standard, IEEE 1016™, "IEEE Standard for Information Technology-Systems Design-Software Design Descriptions," has been created for application in any situation -- commercial, scientific or military -- where software runs on digital computers. It does not require the use of any particular design languages, but establishes requirements on the design languages for use in an SDD.

Situations where IEEE 1016 can be applied include traditional software construction activities, when design leads to code, and reverse engineering situations when a design description is recovered from an existing implementation.

2012 NESC Preprint Now Available!

The next edition of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) won't be published for more than two years, but now is your chance to review the proposed changes that will be incorporated into this critical standard.

Now available from IEEE, the "Preprint Proposals for the 2012 Edition of the National Electrical Safety Code" provides the full text of each proposed revision to the 2007 edition of the NESC. It will also include the recommendations from the subcommittees that have cognizance of the rules addressed by the change proposals.

The Preprint is your opportunity to review the preliminary recommended changes to NESC and gives you the ability to submit comments based on these recommendations.
