Allen Clapp is President of Clapp Research Associates,
P.C., a consulting engineering firm in Raleigh, NC
that serves over 200 utilities and industries with
standards development, safety training, and forensic
services. He also heads Clapp Research, Inc., which
publishes the DANESC UPDATE quarterly newsletter
on codes and standards related to the utility business,
and sells video training on the National Electrical
Safety Code® (NESC®).
Mr. Clapp has been involved in design and evaluation
of electric and communication utility facilities for
over 30 years. He has written numerous technical papers
and is a contributor to McGraw-Hill's Standard
Handbook for Electrical Engineers.
He is a member and past Chair of the NESC Committee and serves on many NESC subcommittees.
He is Editor of the NESC Handbook, published
by the IEEE as a companion to the National Electrical
Safety Code. Over 16,000 people have attended
Allen's seminars on the NESC. He also chairs the ANSI Z535.2 Subcommittee
on Environmental and Facility Safety Signs.
Mr. Clapp is a Past President of the Professional
Engineers of North Carolina, a former Director of
the National Society of Professional Engineers, and
a former member of the IEEE Standards Board.
He has investigated over 400 accidents and regularly
presents courses on Investigating and Litigating Utility
Contact Accidents. He has testified before courts
and commissions for over 25 years, and he has served
as both arbitrator and mediator.
