The IEEE Canada
Standards Committee is conceived as a cooperative endeavor
between the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) and IEEE
Canada (IEEE Region 7), with the support of key industry,
standards, and governmental bodies.
The goals of the
IEEE Canada Standards Committee are to implement the IEEE
Standards Association's globalization initiative in Canada,
which includes promoting IEEE-SA positions to Canadian and
international standards organizations, and serving as a source
of information and positions for IEEE-SA deliberations.
The IEEE Canada
Standards Committee was approved in principle by the IEEE
Region 7 Board in October 1999. Following that action, an
initial committee membership was identified and a charter
was developed. In May 2000, the IEEE Region 7 Board officially
approved the creation of the IEEE Canada Standards Committee.
The initial emphasis
of the IEEE Canada Standards Committee is on the standards
needs of the electric utility industry. Standards issues of
the Canadian telecommunications industry will be an area of
future research.
