The Institute of Electrical and Electronic
Engineers Standards Association (IEEE-SA) is the leading developer
of global standards in a broad range of industries, including:
Power and Energy
Biomedical and Healthcare
Information Technology
Telecommunications
Transportation
Nanotechnology
Information Assurance
For over a century, the IEEE-SA has offered
an established standards development program that features balance,
openness, due process, and consensus.
In addition to producing the prominent
802® Standards for Local and Metropolitan Area Network Wireless
and Wired, IEEE-SA is also developing the standards for:
Intelligent highway systems and vehicular technology
Distributed generation renewable energy
Voting Equipment Electronic Data Interchange
Rechargeable Batteries for PCs
Motor Vehicle Event Data Recorder
Public Key Infrastructure Certificate Issuing and Management
Components
For over a century, IEEE-SA is its established
standards development program - a program that offers balance,
openness, due process, and consensus. Each year, the IEEE-SA conducts
over 200 standards ballots, a process by which proposed standards
are voted upon for technical reliability and soundness.
As a membership organization, IEEE-SA
thrives because of the technical diversity of its 20,000 plus
participants, consisting of technology leaders from around the
globe, including individuals in corporations, organizations, universities,
and government agencies. Through their collective knowledge, members
contribute to the integrity and value of IEEE standards.
Membership in IEEE-SA Through its membership, the IEEE-SA provides
a standards program that serves the global needs of industry, government,
and the public. The members of the IEEE-SA represent technological
innovation, global participation, and dedication to the on-going
advancement and promotion of new concepts. Because of its strong
membership, the IEEE-SA continues to be proactive in meeting industry
needs, as well as responsive to worldwide standards issues.Membership
in the IEEE-SA connects you with a vast network of your counterparts
from leading world organizations, giving you access to a wide range
of technical areas where you can make contacts, gather information,
and build consensus on technical needs to create next generation
standards. IEEE-SA provides you with focused connections for your
industry standards concerns, activities and actions, and provides
a full range of standards services to help you get your standards
development job done.
As a member, you can tap into the expertise
of the thousands of professionals participating in the standards
development process. You are also empowered with governance over
the future direction of IEEE Standards Association, with access
to the IEEE-SA
Board of Governors - the strategic arm of the IEEE-SA, and
to the IEEE-SA
Standards Board, the standards development process oversight
board.
Types of IEEE-SA Membership Providing alternate avenues to help you meet
strategic initiatives, while benefiting industry and creating markets,
the IEEE-SA offers both individual and corporate membership.
IEEE-SA Individual Membership
empowers you with the ability to shape the future of technology
by providing a unique setting in which you can positively impact
global communications, commerce and safety-while in the process
advancing your personal professional stature.
IEEE-SA Corporate Membership
is for corporations in which standards play a central role in
R&D efforts, product development and marketing. By becoming
a corporate member, companies ensure that their business interests
are represented and heard.
Both individual and corporate IEEE-SA
members set the pace for the development of standards products,
technical reports, and documentation that establish sound engineering
practices worldwide.
IEEE and the Standards Association The IEEE-SA is a major contributor to the
IEEE, the world's largest technical professional society. IEEE-SA
membership, through IEEE association, promotes the engineering process
by creating, developing, integrating, sharing, and applying knowledge
about electro- and information technologies and sciences for the
benefit of your profession - and humanity.
IEEE-SA Volunteers - providing experience
and guidance
The strength of the IEEE Standards Community springs from the
dedicated efforts of volunteers lending their technical expertise
and vision to enable the IEEE-SA to keep pace with the changing
landscape of business and technology in a standards-setting arena.
