NOTICE: As the end user, there may be intellectual property issues associated with the use of the Unique Registration Numbers (URN) that you are responsible to ascertain and satisfy. The issues may require that you purchase a license(s) and pay a royalty to third parties who claim ownership to said intellectual property. It is strongly recommended that before you purchase a URN, you review the IEEE Standards Association patent database at http://standards.ieee.org/db/patents/index.html to obtain some of the information that may be relevant to obtaining your URN.

The IEEE has defined a common digital communication interface standard for mixed-mode transducers utilizing a single wire serial bus technology developed by Maxim/Dallas Semiconductor Corporation.

All IEEE 1451.4-2004 transducers may be operated in a multi-drop network environment. Addressing is controlled by a unique registration number (URN). (see IEEE Std 1451.4.2004 subclause 5.4, figure 2) Commercially purchased node devices contain a URN, and manufacturers installing these devices in their products do not need to purchase additional URNs .

Users of IEEE 1451.4-2004 wishing to emulate the operation of a purchased node device with an ASIC or micro-controller may purchase a block of 4096 URNs through the IEEE Registration Authority, to be used in their proprietary designs. Each device must contain a URN to control access in the multi-drop environment.

This form may be used to request a URN block. Please write in the number of blocks of 4096 URNs which you wish to purchase. IEEE does not honor requests for applicant-specified URNs.

The application can be faxed or mailed. Requests for a URN block will be honored within thirty (30) business days of receipt of the fee.

Please make sure that all sections of this form are completed.
