IEEE Vision for Smart Grid Controls: 2030 and Beyond
This document highlights the role of control systems in the evolution of the Smart Grid. It includes an overview of research investigations that are needed for renewable integration, reliability, self-healing, energy efficiency, and resilience to physical and cyber-attacks.
IEEE Grid Vision 2050 Reference Model
The IEEE Grid Vision 2050 Reference Model summarizes the main concepts defined in the IEEE Grid Vision 2050; such as, reference models for energy usage, energy delivery, and energy operations and control.
IEEE Grid Vision 2050 Roadmap
The goal of this roadmap is to stimulate discussion and challenge ideas around the deployment of power and energy technologies.
Bringing Standards to Life
The IEEE 11073™ family of standards are designed to help healthcare product vendors and integrators create devices and systems for disease management, health and fitness, and independent living that can help save lives and improve quality of life for people worldwide.
To many, it is unfathomable that our lives are heavily impacted by standards. From a baby's crib to the many consumer devices that we use daily - numerous standards are implemented. In some cases this is to meet some form of regulatory requirements. In other cases, it is because an industry believes that the standard will provide it the best opportunity to compete or benefit in a space - whether that advantage be based on user safety, product features enabled by standard implementation, or hospital building codes. No matter the driver, standards are pervasive.
Nominate a Colleague for an IEEE Award
Please take the time to honor a worthy colleague you know, who has made significant contributions to IEEE standards with a nomination. The nomination deadline is 31 July 2013.
Call For Proposals
IEEE 1900.5™ Working Group
IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) and the IEEE 1900.5™ Policy Language and Architectures for Managing Cognitive Radio for Dynamic Spectrum Access Applications Working Group (WG) announces a Call For Proposals. The IEEE 1900.5 WG is chartered to develop two new standards, IEEE P1900.5.1™ Standard Policy Language for Dynamic Spectrum Access Systems and IEEE P1900.5.2™ Method for Modeling Spectrum Consumption. This Call for Proposals is soliciting proposals for the content of these standards.
Ethernet Turns 40
We take for granted how computers in the workplace are all connected together. Sharing files with coworkers, sending documents to a network printer, and accessing data from a networked server are all routine procedures thanks to the invention of Ethernet technology. On Ethernet's 40th anniversary, the IEEE History Center shares excerpts from the oral history interview it conducted with Ethernet's co-inventor Robert Metcalfe in February 2004.
Netherlands Builds Nationwide EV Fast-Charging Network
Range anxiety is real for electric vehicle (EV) drivers. But it will soon be a thing of the past for EV owners in the Netherlands. Fastned, a Dutch electric vehicle charging network company, has chosen ABB to provide more than 200 DC fast-charging stations that will blanket the country of more than 16 million people. The chargers will all be within 50 kilometers of each other.
