Seminar: HealthCare IT and eHealth Global Regulation and Market Opportunities Meeting Recap On 3 February 2014, the Standards Institution of Israel (SII), the Israel Export & International Cooperation Institute (IEICI), and the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) co-hosted a workshop on healthcare IT, eHealth, mHealth and market challenges and opportunities. The event took place at the IEICI's facilities in Tel Aviv and attracted some 40 attendees, many from start-up companies and technology organizations from the surrounding areas. Read on
EU Rolling Plan for ICT Standardisation Published
The European Commission worked with the European Multi-Stakeholder Platform for ICT Standardisation (MSP) to develop the "EU Rolling Plan for ICT Standardisation". The Rolling Plan provides an overview of key European policy needs and maps relevant ongoing standardization activities and identifies potential needs to support the policies.
IEEE participates in the MSP through the IEEE Standards Association, and is represented by David Law, who also serves as Chair of IEEE 802.3 among other IEEE-SA roles, and encourages all stakeholders to review the Rolling Plan.

Do Engineers Need Empathy?
A study from Rice University finds that engineering students are less concerned about the welfare of others after graduating college than they were when they entered. The author, Erin Cech, an assistant professor of sociology at the Houston school with a degree in electrical engineering, surveyed 300 students from four U.S. engineering schools before they started their degree program and again after they graduated.
