PISCATAWAY, NJ, 5 April 2012 — IEEE, the world's largest professional association advancing technology for humanity, today announced the approval of IEEE C37.10™-2011 – Guide for Investigation, Analysis and Reporting of Power Circuit Breaker Failures. The newly revised IEEE guide provides practices for uniformly and systematically performing, analyzing and reporting investigations of failures of power circuit breakers.

IEEE C37.10 is designed to bring consistency and rigor to the process of determining the cause of failures in circuit breakers. By replacing subjectivity and inconsistency in assigning blame with a uniform, objective logic for determining the cause of a failure, the standard supports a process of continuous improvement across product manufacturing and application, minimizing the likelihood and negative impact of future events. In this way, IEEE C37.10 is intended to encourage cooperative efforts by users and manufacturers of circuit breakers in failure analysis.
