IEEE Representation on ISO (ANSI ISO Council)
The IEEE is a member of the ANSI ISO Council. ANSI is the sole U.S. representative and dues-paying member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and as a founding member of the ISO, ANSI plays an active role in its governance.
The ISO
Council meets twice a year and is responsible for the development
of ISOs multi-year strategic plan, the development of the
ISO annual budget, ISOs relations with other external organizations,
and other political/strategic decisions, and the general operations
of ISO. The ISO Council consists of the principal officers of ISO
and eighteen elected member bodies, including ANSI for the USA.
ANSI is one of five permanent members to the ISO Council.

IEEE Agreement with ISO - ISO/IEEE "Pilot Project"
The IEEE and ISO created the "Pilot Project"
in which IEEE standards, published and under development, could
be jointly developed in a manner that ensured "full and unrestricted"
participation by ISO member bodies, and eventually published with
both ISO and IEEE copyrights and logos. By invoking the Vienna Agreement,
this joint standardization "fastrack" process was extended
to include CEN, thus holding out the prospect for truly international
harmonized standards for medical device communication.
See the ISO/IEEE/CEN
Joint Standardization Process (PDF format) for more information.
