1050-1989 - IEEE Guide for Instrumentation and Control Equipment Grounding in Generating Stations

Description: The purpose of this report is to provide guidance for the design of grounding systems for instrumentation and control equipment specific to power generating stations. It also includes consideration of the requirements for the grounding of systems associated with the interconnection of the station to adjacent substations since these are a large source of electrical noise. The grounding methods in this guide are intended to minimize degradation of instrumentation and control signals in such power stations. By contrast, the station grounding system is mainly oriented toward meeting the safety requirements of various codes, i.e. a system which will provide a low-impedance path to ground in order that high voltages cannot exist on equipment or structures due to lightning surges, electrical faults, circulating currents, or static charges.
