Mandatory coordination is a method
of ensuring that three organizations
are aware of, and have a chance to
review, your draft standards project
and its contents. These organizations
are: Standards Coordinating Committee
(SCC) 14 -- Quantities, Units and
Letter Symbols; SCC10 -- IEEE Dictionary;
and Staff Editorial Review. They are
given this opportunity by automatically
including them in every ballot group
(with the exception of reaffirmation
ballots which do not require mandatory
coordination). Note that these three
organizations are considered "mandatory
coordination" because they are
required by SA rules and are listed
on your Project Authorization Request
(PAR) form.
A fourth mandatory coordination,
for the IEEE Registration Authority
Committee (RAC), may be automatically
included in your balloting group
if requested by the Sponsor at the
time of draft submission for Sponsor
ballot. This mandatory coordination
would normally be requested if the
PAR indicates the possible registration
of objects or numbers to be included
in or used by the project or if
it becomes apparent through development
of the draft that such may occur.
How is mandatory
coordination achieved?
Mandatory coordination for SCC14
and SCC10 is achieved by allowing
a representative of the coordinating
organizations and opportunity to review
the Sponsor ballot document during
the open Sponsor ballot period. Coordination
is automatically processed by the
IEEE-SA myBallot
system.
Mandatory editorial coordination
(MEC) needs to be completed prior
to the start of your initial Sponsor
ballot. The form to start the MEC
can be found here.
Mandatory coordination contacts are
not voting members of the balloting
group. However, the Sponsor must address
their comments and try to resolve them
if possible.
