Continuing Our Efforts to Enhance the NESC
Register today to ensure your seat at this dynamic workshop!

As the 16 July 2018 deadline for submitting change proposals to the next edition of the NESC fast approaches, the NESC community will come together to build upon the foundation laid at the first NESC Workshop in October 2016. In this open forum, draft change proposals will be presented and discussed. A tentative agenda includes:

Day 1: Tuesday, April 10, 2018, 8:30am - 5:00pm, followed by a Networking Social
General Session: Welcome The NESC community will come together to hear previews of draft NESC change proposals from NESC Subcommittees and Working Groups with the ability to discuss and provide input via round table venues. A variety of related subjects will also be covered.
Keynote: Welcome to Georgia! Commissioner Tim Echols, Georgia Public Service Commission
Session: Wired Ethernet Evolution and Powering the Internet of Things (IoT) IoT based on wired Ethernet is attractive where line powering is desired and location is fixed. Recent developments in IEEE 802.3 standards for 4 pair Power over Ethernet to deliver more power, and new standards for single-pair Ethernet transmission, including single-pair powering will be discussed, including applications and implications for safety.
Session: Evolution to 5G 5G will provide the next-generation of higher speeds and lower latency for customers. The standards are set to lay the foundation for the evolution to 5G. Densely deployed small cells (Pico Cells, LTE & 5G mmWAVE) have become a critical component for delivering a high performing wireless network by helping to address both capacity and coverage concerns.
Session: A National Approach to Joint Use A consistent and efficient approach to joint use electric and communications facilities nationwide will be discussed.
Session: NESC Subcommittee 4, Overhead Lines-Clearances: Working Group Draft Change Proposals NESC Subcommittee 4 leadership will present information on draft change proposals impacting Sections 20-23 of the NESC.
Session: NESC Subcommittee 5, Overhead Lines-Strength & Loading: Working Group Draft Change Proposals (CPs) NESC Subcommittee 5 leadership will present information on draft change proposals impacting Sections 24-27 of the NESC.
Tutorial: What Makes for a Successful Change Proposal? NESC Subcommittee leadership will present best practices for developing change proposals for the 2022 NESC.
Session: NESC Processes: Membership and Fast Track What’s new and pending for NESC processes? NESC leadership will present proposals under consideration to address new membership categories and a fast track process for changes in the NESC.
Session: NESC Subcommittee 8: Work Rules Working Group Draft Change Proposals (CPs) NESC Subcommittee 8 leadership will present information on draft change proposals on arc flash tables and work rules for generation, impacting Part 4 of the NESC.
