Last Mile Connectivity to Enable Home and Building Automation

India is making big strides in Smart Grid deployment, as seen through the various initiatives and pilot projects driven by the government and India Smart Grid Forum (ISGF), all with smart metering as one of its focal point. The technology for the "Last Mile Connectivity" for smart grid applications (smart metering) and the correct technology based on the local parameters continue to be a major topic of debate.

With telecommunications technology and telecommunications-related standards being fundamental to home and building automation technology development and deployment, including the Internet of Things (IoT) and many M2M applications, the success of these depend strongly on standardization, which provides interoperability, compatibility, reliability and effective operations.

The IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) is offering this one-day workshop which explore various wireless and wireline communication technologies deployed in the Last Mile, their applications to enable efficient development and deployment of next generation systems, as well as the role of market-driven standards through the OpenStand external link initiative. The workshop will also focus on current research trends happening in the technology being used in the Last Mile.
