2 At the present time, there is no standard way of expressing the curvature of the ST segment as a numeric parameter. Mathematically, “curvature” can be defined as the radius of a best-fit circle that is tangent to the area of interest on the ST or ST-T segment on its concave side, using the convention of +|1/R| for “concave_up”, 0 for “linear” and -|1/R| for “concave_down”. Although there is no experimental or theoretical evidence to support the use of this or any other measure of curvature for the ST and ST-T segment, it is visually and mathematically intuitive. A standard “visual” unit of measure such as “1mm” (40msec by 100μV) could be assumed. Other measures are possible (e.g. best-fit polynomial coefficients) and should be considered as the basis for defining two new variables, CURVATURE_ST and CURVATURE_ST_T. A key benefit of defining a numeric parameter is that new criteria can be retrospectively applied. back
