The Portable Computer Battery Working Group was created to provide a platform based on the experience of industry leaders in cell, battery pack, and systems management leading to design approaches for mobile computing devices, such as notebook computers. The Working Group developed IEEE-1625:2008, "IEEE Standard for Rechargeable Batteries for Multi-Cell Mobile Computing Devices". The standard focuses on design approaches for the reliable operation of mobile computing devices and similar rechargeable battery-operated systems with multiple cells in series or series and parallel. Third-party certification is out of the scope of this standard.
