The area of Low-Voltage Power Surge Protective Devices is rapidly evolving to include new concepts, technologies and applications. Recent changes in the certification requirements of and the terminology used to describe low-voltage power surge protective devices has set in motion active projects by Working Group 3.6.6 to update, expand and further develop standards related to test specifications and provide additional application guidance for low-voltage power surge protective devices. While the benefit of surge protective devices has become more apparent in the today’s electrical systems, further education regarding the appropriate test methods, application, and device specifications is still needed.
