Overall Responsibility:
It is the responsibility of the IEEE-SA Standards Board and each Board member to uphold and enhance the quality and integrity of the IEEE standards process and the resultant standards and documentation. It is also the responsibility of Board members to project the image and reputation of the Institute as a respected world leader in the development and dissemination of standards and technical documentation. The Board is also responsible to minimize the Institute¹s risk from liability that may arise from the misuse of the standards process. To carry out its basic function the board will:
Basic Functions:
1) Establish and maintain a consensus process that will assure openness, fairness, a balance of interests among materially affected parties, a right to appeal, and the timely dissemination of the standards and technical information through state-of-the-art media.
2) Review all new programs and standards for their adherence to IEEE processes (including fiscal and legal) for use in IEEE and as IEEE technical documents.
3) Approve or disapprove the initiation of all new programs and standards projects.
4) Review all standards projects submitted for approval as to consensus, due process, their conformance to the approved proposal and the instructions given with the project authorization.
5) Approve or disapprove submitted standards based on the adherence to IEEE processes and rules of consensus, need, and the effect that the document may have on the public and the Institute.

Accountability:
The IEEE-SA Standards Board is accountable to the IEEE-SA Board of Governors and the public at large for the integrity of the standards process and the technical documents that result from that process.
In order to carry out their work, IEEE-SA Standards Board members are expected to have a computer, an email address to receive and send information, and access to the world wide web.
