PISCATAWAY, N.J., USA, 19 October 2004 With the fast-paced development and implementation of the IEEE 802® standards and subsequent amendments for wireless data communication, the IEEE-under its Standards Information Network-has published a book that covers the relationship between IEEE 802.11™, 802.15™ and 802.16™, and discusses how they will evolve.

IEEE wireless communication standards continue to have a significant impact on the progression of wireless and mobile communications that benefit industry and the public. Work continues on IEEE 802.11 standards that support air interface between and among radio-frequency wireless clients in LANs, as well as on IEEE 802.15 standards, which provide for low-complexity, low power wireless connectivity for fixes and portable devises in personal operating spaces, and IEEE 802.16 standards addressing fixed broadband wireless access (BWA) in wireless metropolitan area networks.

"Wireless Communication Standards: A Study of IEEE 802.11, 802.15 and 802.16" provides a comprehensive overview of the IEEE WLAN, WPAN and WMAN standards, while discussing deployment of WLAN networks. It further addresses current business trends and provides insight into future wireless communication standards development.

"IEEE 802.11, 802.15 and 802.16 are evolving, and each of them is a family of standards," said author Dr. Todor Cooklev. "802.11 and 802.15 are mass-market wireless technologies, and 802.16 is also becoming mass market. As a result, students, scientists, and engineers in industry must educate themselves about them. This book is the only book on all of the IEEE wireless standards. "

"Wireless Communication Standards: A Study of 802.11, 802.15 and 802.16" is available for purchase through ShopIEEE at: http://shop.ieee.org/ieeestore/product.aspx?product_no=SP1134. To obtain copies of the IEEE 802 wireless standards, go to: http://shop.ieee.org/.
IEEE 802.11, 802.15 and 802.16 standards are sponsored by IEEE 802® LAN/MAN Standards Committee of the IEEE Computer Society. For further information, visit: http://www.ieee802.org/.

About the IEEE Standards Association
The IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA), a global standards-setting body, develops consensus standards through an open process that brings diverse parts of an industry together. It has a portfolio of more than 870 completed standards and more than 400 in development. IEEE-SA promotes the engineering process by creating, developing, integrating, sharing and applying knowledge about electro- and information technologies and sciences for the benefit of humanity and the profession. For further information on IEEE-SA visit: http://standards.ieee.org/.

About the IEEE
The IEEE has more than 360,000 members in approximately 175 countries. Through its members, the organization is a leading authority on areas ranging from aerospace, computers and telecommunications to biomedicine, electric power and consumer electronics. The IEEE produces nearly 30 percent of the world's literature in the electrical and electronics engineering, computing and control technology fields. This nonprofit organization also sponsors or cosponsors more than 300 technical conferences each year. Additional information about the IEEE can be found at http://www.ieee.org/.
