National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) Preprint 2002 Proposals Now Available

PISCATAWAY, NJ,- September 1, 1999 -The IEEE-SA announced today the availability of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) Preprint 2002 Proposals. This document has been prepared to provide all interested parties an opportunity to study and comment on the Proposed Revisions to be incorporated into the 2002 Edition of the NESC.

The preprint provides the full text of each proposal to revise the 1997 Edition of the NESC together with the recommendation of the subcommittee that has cognizance of the rules addressed by the change proposal (CP). Deadline for receipt of comments on the Proposed Revisions is 1 May 2000.

Two of the change proposals submitted apply to a relatively large number of rules. For this reason the Preprint is divided into two groups: (1) change proposals that apply to a single rule or to a few closely related rules and (2) reorganization of Sections 25 and 26 on Loading and Strength of Overhead lines.

Comments on the proposed changes must be readily reproducible form, with the comment for each separate topic on a separate sheet, using the template included in the document.

Published by the IEEE, the NESC is adopted by law by the majority of states and Public Service Commissions across the US and is the single, most important document for safeguarding persons against electrical hazards during the installation, operation and maintenance of electric supply and communication lines.
